A George III cream-japanned musical longcase clock
Movement by Robert and Peter Higgs, circa 1775; case possibly earlier

The pagoda hood with later brass sound frets to front and sides, inset columns, with later brass finials, the unusual trunk door with breakarch top and concave-cut lower angles, decorated with chinoiserie, the case sides painted with flowers, on double-footed plinth with raised panel, the 12in. wide brass dial painted with flowers, with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the centre with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, an applied plaque signed
Rob.t & Peter Higgs/LONDON, blued steel hands, with music selection in the arch for A MINUET/A MARCH, the eight day three train movement with six pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell, music on eight bells with fifteen hammers via a 2¼in. long pinned cylinder, also with trip for music at will; case possibly associated to movement and dial
